I know the holidays are supposed to be all full of cheer and good times, but honestly, when you’re trying to put on your very best June Cleaver-meets-Pinterest act, it can get a little exhausting. While I haven’t even put up my holiday decorations, I have managed to completely re-do my living room including paint, new furniture, and setting up a surround sound system and TiVO. Not for the faint of heart, my friends, especially with a holiday visit from family looming around the corner. I heard a very sage bit of advice recently. If you participated in a trend, it’s best to skip it the next time it comes around. In other words, all trends are cyclic. Neon was huge in the mid-80s when I was in middle school and very interested in being trendy. I had the neon lace hair bow, the neon pink slouchy sweatshirt (a la Flashdance), fingerless black gloves, black rubber bracelets, and I’m sure you can figure out the rest. So when neon came back into vogue recently, I knew that my days of rocking neon clothing was past. However, I love using my makeup to participate in trends that I don’t want to embrace completely. Check out some of my inspiration for incorporating a touch of neon into my routine.
In case you haven’t noticed, braids have been everywhere for the past few seasons. Of course, I can’t braid worth a darn, much to my daughter’s dismay, but some of these styles might make me practice a bit more. Have you been sporting braids?
