Smashbox has welcomed fall with an interesting collection of velvety dark shadows, metallic liquid liners, and plenty of bronze. Clearly they don’t want the summer to go away, and I don’t blame them. This collection is actually wearable now, unlike many other fall collections released in the summer, and I’m especially intrigued with their new liquid eye liners and “lash overlay” concept.

One of the most-asked questions I think most beauty bloggers get (or maybe it’s just me!) is how to do a smokey eye. The truth of the matter is that it looks dramatic and overwhelming, but it’s really not. There is a simple technique to doing it well, and I’ve rounded up some of the best tutorials on the web that you hopefully haven’t seen to help you achieve the look you’re going for.
Remember, there are many different ways to execute the smoky eye – you don’t have to go for full on black and gray smoke. Any color will work, as long as you have about three shades of that color. This goes for neutrals as well.
- NARS Smokey Eye Tutorial by Accidental Beauty. A very sophisticated look using NARS products.
- Smoky Eye Tutorial by Cupcakes and Cashmere: A bare-bones yet simple way to get the look.

I have horrid seasonal allergies. Actually, I’m not sure why they are called seasonal allergies when I suffer from them all year, but who am I to argue? Dust mites are at the very tip top of my allergy list, followed closely by grass, trees, weed, and anything else that grows and replenishes oxygen into the air. It’s really fab.
Among my arsenal of allergy remedies are the eyedrops for allergy sufferers – these have made a tremendous difference in reducing my puffy red eyes, and I have recommended them before. Why do I mention this? I was playing around with my makeup stash today, trying to get somewhat organized (which is pretty much an impossible task – I simply have too much stuff), and I realized that I had never even used my Smashbox VIP quad that came with my Nordstrom exclusive set from the holidays. Needless to say, it’s beautiful and I don’t know why I haven’t used it before now.
Included is a carbon black, metallic silver, metallic gold, and a matte ivory, which is perfect as a highlighter. The black, when applied with a wet eyeliner brush doubles as an excellent eyeliner.
But that’s not my big discovery. I went ahead and swatched the quad, as you can see here:

I am so excited to see Estee Lauder really taking their collections to the next level. Anyone who is still mistakenly thinking of the brand as an “old lady” favorite should definitely think again – the two new Bronze Goddess summer collections are nothing short of spectacular.
There are two color stories with this collection, Exotic Coral and Exotic Orchid. Both of these collections have some gorgeous limited edition colors for eyes, lips, and nails.
