Marc Jacobs decides to enter the world of beauty with a Sephora collaboration
WWD is reporting that Marc Jacobs is in talks with Sephora to launch his own beauty line. Jacobs said he had his first meeting for the color line last week. “I see makeup, fragrance — everything, really — as an opportunity. The idea of choosing a color for your lip, or an eyeliner — it’s just such a delight. The ritual of waking up and making those choices is something people really enjoy. We currently are working on defining what Marc Jacobs cosmetics will be, what they’ll say, what makes them distinctive. I think that will take some time, but the first meeting was good.” Continue reading »

Am I the only one who has a very special relationship with their heat tools? It’s a love-hate relationship, actually because I love the results I get from a great hot tool, but hate the damage it can cause. I try and limit my use of heat appliances as much as I can, but I have found that having a good hair care routine along with quality tools goes a long way towards healthy hair. These are the heat tools that I simply cannot live without. Continue reading »

Ricky’s NYC announces their first ever Rockin’ Beauty Awards: vote to win!
It’s no secret that I harbor an intense love for Ricky’s NYC. It’s an amazing beauty supply store full of high end beauty products located mainly in New York City. Some Ricky’s locations have a Revolver Salon inside, and if you haven’t read my review of it, what are you waiting for? Continue reading »
Long wear, gorgeous color, and high gloss all in one product from Urban Decay
I’ll admit it – I’ve been stalking this product in this specific color since it came out this past fall. I had only seen pictures and read descriptions, and just from that I knew I had to try it out, but my local Sephora can be pretty worthless when it comes to new products. Either they just don’t get them or they sell out within 30 minutes of being placed on the floor and people steal the samples, I’m not sure which. Probably a combination of above. At any rate, I finally got my hands on the Urban Decay Super Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Adrenaline because I needed to see it in person before ordering it online: Continue reading »
Add some no-committment hair color to your Halloween celebrations
Halloween is a great time to try out some new hair colors, even if it’s bright green or pink glitter. After all, there aren’t many days where you can pass off that kind of hair without people wondering if you have some sort of affliction. Especially if you are of an age. Here are five favorite temporary hair color options that wash out in your next shower.
- Jerome Russel Team Colors Sweat Resistant Hair Color Spray: created for cheerleaders and other active sports types, this is a perfect product if you know you’re going to be getting down and dirty. Available in brights such as purple, red, green, blue, and white. $4.99
- Manic Panic Dyehard Temporary Hair Color Gel: pretty much the gold standard for bright and amazing colors. The range is pretty incredible from metallics to neons that glow under black lights, you can find exactly what you need in this line. It’s not a spray, so you can do some precise applications. $8.40
- Streaks n Tips Temporary Highlight Spray: this is a more subtle color, awesome for adding glitter, shine, and highlights. It’s also on sale at Sally Beauty for $3.99.
- Beyond the Zone Color Bombz Temporary Hair Color: wild shades like Manic Panic only in spray form. Glitter, metallics, and solid colors abound in an impressive color line. $5.99
- Clairol Jazzing Temporary Hair Color: This is a bit longer lasting than our other picks, and the color payoff is more sheer, but this semi-permanent can add a gorgeous shiny color accents to your hair in only a few minutes. No mixing, no fuss. Just apply, let set, and rinse out. Style as usual. I love to use the blue over my black hair. On sale right now for $5 at Sally Beauty.
Swatching Smolder-Eyes Palettes by Real Colors discovered at Sally Beauty
Before you ask me who the Real Colors brand is, I’ll just go ahead and clear it up. I’m on a beauty supply store kick, trying to decide if their makeup is as good as what I buy in specialty and department stores. This brand is sold at Sally Beauty, both in store and online.
The first palette I swatched was Feign. For $8.99 you get six metallic shades ranging from charcoal to silver, dark brown to light bronze. These shadows are baked, and can be used either wet or dry. I swatched them dry, but wet they make a FANTASTIC liner, especially when used with an angle brush.
The next palette was Faux Pas, full of dramatic brights, and I can’t really decide if they are foiled or metallic. Again, they look fantastic dry, but wet creates a whole new level of bright liner goodness. These were really great shadows, nicely pigmented and easy to blend, especially for the price. The only downside I could find was the very thin area of shadow in the packaging – it makes it hard to pick up with a bigger brush – my angle brush was no problem. I’m sure it’s easy to use with the included sponge applicator, but I just can’t use those because they are worthless.
Other shades include Trickster, Con-Artist, Facade, and Counterfeit. Check out the slideshow of the swatching below.

One thing is for certain, you can always count on Hello Kitty for cute. This collection is still very cute, but in a more edgy way than you’d expect for the Kitty.
Bright and stylish, it works for adults too. The graffiti covered cases, compacts, and brushes will be popular among Hello Kitty enthusiasts as well as product junkies. And if you happen to be both (I can’t be the only one who bought every single thing in the MAC Hello Kitty collection) then you will LOVE this fall collection.
The collection includes:
- Graffiti Palette ($35) – Hello Kitty Beauty’s signature, limited-edition tiered compact goes edgy with stylish graffiti décor and smoky shades. The top tier contains four eyeshadows in shimmery gray, charcoal, soft pink and grayish teal, while the bottom tier holds a dusty pink and bronzy peach blush/bronzer duo.
- Graffiti Brush Set ($49) – Hello Kitty Beauty’s top-selling brush set has been “tagged” with the funky Graffiti Kitty print for a fun and charming new look. Inside the Hello Kitty-shaped holder are five synthetic brushes that provide a professional touch to any beauty look.
- Graffiti Rollergirl ($18) – This enchanting and uplifting fragrance has a new look that’s as fresh as the iconic scent. Containing fruit, flowers and spice, the fragrance captures Hello Kitty’s sweetness, fun and unexpected surprises.
- Graffiti Kitty Cosmetic Bag ($28) – Featuring the same Graffiti Kitty print in a tarnished silver, faux-leather design, this medium-sized carry-all is roomy enough to hold all of your Hello Kitty makeup while adding a touch of downtown flair.
- Graffiti Compact Mirror ($18) – Touch up in style with this cool compact mirror decorated in the edgy Graffiti Kitty print. The dual sided mirror design includes regular and 3X magnification.
Sephora celebrates grand opening of the long-awaited store in the Meatpacking District of NYC with a slew of celebs
If you have had the chance to be in NYC lately and are also a huge beauty junkie like myself, the talk of the town was the new Sephora Meatpacking, which disappointed all of us who had hoped to check it out during Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. Hopes dashed, us nomadic beauty bloggers from points unknown have had to stand by and wait to hear of the news. But while we weren’t able to celebrate this amazing store, Sephora invited a few key VIPs to do the honor, such as Zoe Saldana, Samantha Ronson, who was in support of sister Charlotte Ronson who has a new line exclusively at Sephora, as well as Gray’s Anatomy hunk Jessie Williams, and of course tattoo artist Kat Von D, who has a successful line already at the beauty mega-retailer.
What makes this Sephora so darn interesting? Taking cues from the super-successful Mac stores, checkout will be totally mobile, with the staff using iPads to keep you on your way with no waiting in line. Also, the trendy location will carry such hard to find lines such as Koh Gen Do, Omorovicza, Ellis Faas, Tatcha, Sentara, and Philip Martins. And of course, no trip to Sephora would be complete without a stop at the ultra-modern beauty studio, which will have customized services for customers.
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to visit until I am back in the city in November. If you have been, share your thoughts! Is it as amazing as everyone thinks it is going to be?

While I was in New York City for Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week, I had the opportunity to pop into the Revolver Salon inside Rickys NYC. Now, we all know that I LOVE me some Rickys – you can find just about any beauty need ever in there, plus a few that you didn’t know you needed. Besides getting a fabulous blowout, my stylist, Lu, gave me this amazing deep conditioning treatment called Nigelle Hy, formulated for dry, coarse hair.
Nigelle Hy (the Hy stands for Hydration, I’m told) is a Japanese product that was formulated to meet the needs of those who chemically straightened and used heat tools on their hair. You can use it directly after coloring or chemical straightening, and it will not strip your color at all. The product is applied in the salon and allowed to sit for about 15 minutes, after which you wash out and style as normal. Once styling is done, I saw an immediate and noticeable difference in the softness and shininess of my hair. Even more interesting was that Lu didn’t use nearly as many heat tools on my hair as I typically do. I often blow dry and flat iron or curl, whereas Lu simply blow dried my hair and didn’t use any special styling products. I usually use about four.
The product is extremely long-lasting as well, plus you receive four ampules to use once a week to freshen up the conditioning. It has been nearly a week, and I still don’t need to use any smoothing styling products. There are three different formulations: fine, normal, and coarse hair. We decided to use the coarse formula for me, as my hair is thick, coarse, dry, and borders on a bit damaged.
Overall, it was a great visit to a fun salon (check out my photos in the slideshow!), and the conditioning treatment is well worth the price and the visit. Visit Revolver Salon to contact them and find out which treatment is best for your hair. And while you’re there, be sure to pick up some Ricky’s goodies!

Swatching: Real Colors Baked Trio Foil Eye Shadow from Sally Beauty in Fools Gold
I’m on an affordable makeup kick lately. Especially when it comes to what is in local beauty supply stores – it’s amazing what you can get for such a small amount of money. When I saw these at Sally Beauty, I knew I had to pick them up. Metallics are having a moment, and I don’t have very many of them. Nothing like a season change to get me excited about some new trends!
Sometimes I’m a fan of having all your colors in a palette in one pan, and other times I’m not. This is one of those times where I’m not such a huge fan. The colors in the Real Colors Baked Trio Foil Eye Shadow are gorgeous – nicely pigmented with an excellent metallic sheen. But the center color is so difficult to get to that it can be a problem with my makeup brushes. Also, like many of these baked metallics, the shadow is soft, so be careful and don’t dig in too hard, or you will have an intense mess on your hands.
That being said, I love these shadows. The color payoff is lovely, and the price couldn’t be better. I think these would make an excellent smoky eye, especially paired with a striking kohl liner.
Real Colors Baked Trio Foil Eye Shadow is available at Sally Beauty for $3.99, and comes in seven different trios: Phony (neutrals/copper), Foiled (rose/silver/black), Bogus (gold/tan/copper), Fools Gold (copper/gold/purple), Frills & Fancy (copper/silver/gold), Sparkle & Shine (dark blue/silver/blue), and Trinkets & Treasure (brown/gold/dark brown).

Quite some time ago, I talked about the Clinique self-diagnostic computers that I was introduced to in New York City during the first Fashion’s Night Out. They were super cool, and worked really well, but now Clinique has taken their act on the road and use Apple iPads to run the software, and will be showing up at select Sephora locations to offer free consultations. Stop in and get your consult, and you will walk out with a travel-size Acne Solutions Spot Healing Gel or 7 Day Scrub Cream Rinse-Off Formula
free.
Clinique will be offering the Sephora exclusive consultations on the following dates:

Summer can take it’s toll – between the sun, chlorine, sea water, and heat processing, hair can start looking extremely dull by the time the summer wraps up. These three deep conditioners not only help heal hair, but impart an amazing shine, helping hair recover from all the summertime fun. Use once a week for normal hair, three times a week for damaged or dry hair. For an extra special conditioning system, apply mask to hair, then put on a cheap shower cap. Wrap a hot damp towel over the shower cap and let sit for 15 minutes.
NuMe is a brand that is new to me and has a limited distribution, available only on the NuMeStyle.com site and Amazon. However, their deep conditioner is superb – applied while in the shower, it penetrates deeply and leaves a long-lasting shine. I have been turning to this Intense Renewal Mask more and more as the summer goes on. $18.99 at NuMeStyle.com.

One ‘n Only Argan Oil Hydrating Mask 8 oz. is Sally Beauty’s answer to Moroccan Oil. This heavy-duty treatment is not only cheaper, but it performs pretty much the exact same way as far as I can tell. It has that typical earthy nut scent which lasts, and does a great job at increasing the shine factor on my otherwise rather dull looking hair. $9.49 at SallyBeauty.com.
This Neutrogena line is often overlooked, and I can’t figure out why. If you have dry or damaged hair, you could do far worse than this drugstore favorite. The mask is very hydrating, and even with my dry hair, once a week is sufficient. Available at most drugstores and mass merchants, or $8.99 at RickysNYC.com.
