I’ve been meaning to write about this collection for some time now, but I haven’t gotten around to it because I’ve been playing with it so much!

I’ve written about Marina Cosmetics before, and wanted to share this special offer with you before it expires. Purchase any Marina Hydrating Gloss for $22, and receive a full sized Sea Perfected Lipstick FREE. That is a gloss and a lipstick for $22. Can’t beat that.
The best part about these products is that they offer UVA and UVB protection, which isn’t something you find in many glosses or lipsticks, but is so important. Also, I’m told that if you use a Marina lip product for 56 days, you can see a 9% decrease in wrinkle depth to the lips.
Find them in salons near you or online at MarinaCosmetics.com.
Edited to Add: These discounts are available at the participating Beauty 360 locations only.
I think this is a pretty ingenious product – the ability to take two colors to blend on the lips, or just the ability to carry them together is pretty sweet.
However, it looks much cooler than it actually is. It took me near five minutes just to figure out how to open the cap, and another two minutes to figure out how to get the product out. There is a trick to it – you can’t just apply it and go at first.
The gloss is nicely pigmented, but after using it, I wasn’t really sure what the benefit was of having two lipglosses to blend. It get it with heavier lip color, but it almost seems like overkill with the gloss. However, the gloss itself is nicely pigmented, and not sticky at all. I was a little put off by the smell, which reminded me of an overly sweet vanilla cupcake.
Gorgeous browns, neturals and bronzes are always popular for summer. I know I tend to go towards shimmering neutrals with a touch of blue in them on my eyes, peachier blushes, and always neutral, shimmery lips. I guess I’m wanting to match that mythical tan that I never have, but those shades always scream “summer!” to me.
I had the opport
unity to try some absolutely gorgeous lipsticks and lipglosses from Marina Cosmetics, all of them inspired by the colors of the seashore. The lip gloss above is called Manila Mango, and is my absolute favorite. It’s a heavily pigmented gloss, which is super hard to find, and it goes on without being gummy or sticky.
That could be because of the ingredients. Marina Cosmetics uses all natural ingredients from the sea. Two marine-based ingredients are at the heart of every formulation: Antileukine 6 (derived from golden seaweed) and nutrient-rich sea kelp. Anteleukine 6 is Ecocert certified and offers the best in lip-defense, acting to boost hydration, promote firmness and smoothness, and aid in decreasing wrinkle depth. In addition, it also helps to stimulate collagen synthesis, block inflammation, and prevent damage due to sun exposure. Organic sea kelp, which is high in silicon, offers vitamins and minerals to the lips, while helping to restore firmness and tone, prevent wrinkles, and promote softer, smoother, younger looking lips. Other ingredients include Buriti Oil, certified organic Jojoba oil, certified organic sunflower oil, as well as vitamin C and E.
Marina Cosmetics are available online. Lipsticks retail at $20.00 and lip glosses retail for $22.00. I can’t recommend them enough – they are gorgeous shades, last a long time, feel fantastic on the lips, and are eco-friendly.

Yves Saint Laurent, better known as YSL, has released six gorgeous new sparkle-free shades. Based on their best selling Golden Gloss, these shades are shiny, matte, and have a pleasant mango scent.
One of the new shades, Pure Coral, is part of the Spring Look 2009 collection.

There are some lip glosses that I just don’t expect much out of, especially tinted ones. But I was very pleasantly surprised when I tried out each color of the Sheer Organic Shine from Kiss My Face.
These glosses are actually quite pigmented and have a lovely minty smell. They also have a slight tingling sensation on the lips, but it isn’t unpleasant. I’m assuming it’s due to the peppermint oil in the ingredients.
My personal favorite right now is the Garnet shade – it gives me a great red tint without being overwhelming, and stays on a decent amount of time. I never find any gloss that lasts forever, but this one is about average in that regard, which is pretty much all I expect out of a gloss.
I want one of my readers to try these out, too. So I’m giving away all four colors that I have to one lucky winner. Enter now, and I’ll draw the winner’s name on 1/30/09. I promise I’ll be prompt about it, I know I have a tendency to forget. Good luck!

We, like you, can never have too many glosses. Here are a few of our faves from MAC, Chanel, Clinique and more |
|
Lip gloss — it’s a staple in everyone’s makeup bag (right?!), so the TotalBeauty.com editorial team is obsessed with finding the very best. We’ve tried a ton — some even call us lip gloss whores — and narrowed down the best for you. If you disagree though, please chime in. We’d love to know about your go-to glosses. |
If you disregarded my advice and didn’t get anything from the Tendertones collection by MAC, I forgive you. Because L’Oreal HIP Jelly Balm pots are the absolute next best thing. And, lucky for those who don’t follow every limited edition release by MAC, these are available all the time for a lower price.
But are they really as good? I think they are. Sheer color, soft, and easy to apply. And while the fragrance is not my style (my dislike of smelling like candy is well documented here), the good news is that it doesn’t last. Nor does it have an obnoxiously sweet flavor that encourages you to lick it all off. Honestly, I never understood flavored lip glosses – why would I want to lick it all off just to reapply? It’s obvious why they keep making them though!
I’m an absolute fanatic when it comes to keeping my lips soft. Keep a product like this one on them at all times, and you won’t have to worry about exfoliating when it comes time to don those dark shades this fall.
So, do you all think I’ll be rocking the dark lips this fall? I think so. I am somewhat obsessed with this trend, which isn’t surprising after all the corals, bronzes, and pinks that I’ve stockpiled over the past year or so. Not that I don’t love them, but I am ready for a change.
YSL to the rescue. Pur Black Gloss is ready for pre-order only and is a limited edition. Get your wallets ready, ladies, because I guarantee that this won’t last long. From the description:
From plum to ebony, it dresses lips in an infinite range of shades, depending on how it is applied – feather light or rich and bold. Transparent yet intense, it plays on the depths of black and the pure shine of a sparkle-free formula.
It is expected to ship on September 19, and you will be notified via email when it’s ready to go. I expect to see pictures.
I’m all about fall. I love bringing out my black dresses, gray boots, smoky eyes, and dark lips. I think makeup and fashion are so much more interesting, and I’m usually happy to pack away the bronze until the next spring when I’m ready to lighten up a little. But you can be more dramatic when it’s cold outside, even in my backwater little beach town.
And speaking of dramatic, if you are considering this season’s dark lip trend, you should sample Smashbox’s Wicked Lovely Lip Gloss in Sultry. It’s almost like melted hot chocolate on your lips with lots of shimmer in it. It’s not glittery, it’s much more subtle than that, and it looks just ever so slightly dangerous.
One caveat to my otherwise glowing and gushing review: I can’t stand the brush that comes with it. I have no idea why, but it doesn’t give even coverage and I end up finishing it up with my finger or another lip brush that I already own.
Outside of that, this is my lipgloss for fall. It’s absolutely gorgeous and doesn’t require a color underneath it. You can build it for more dramatic results or just leave it as a sheer wash of dark color.
This is a limited edition from Sephora, so don’t wait around to try this one out. You can thank me later.
CoverGirl Wetslicks AmazeMint lipglosses cover a lot of ground all in one product. Infused with Crest Peppermint Oil, it gives you a shot of fresh breath while glossing up your lips in style.
I read somewhere that Christina Aguilera reapplied her lip gloss 30 times during dinner recently. Girlfriend obviously wasn’t wearing my newest find, L’Oreal’s Infallible Never Fail LipGloss. I picked up this little gem recently after hearing about Clinique’s Long Last Gloss Wear, wondering how well the whole idea really worked. Now, I haven’t tried out Clinique’s product yet, but I have been testing L’Oreal’s gloss.
First of all, the gloss itself does stay on quite a long time. I’m not getting the promised six hours out of it, but I’m certainly getting four. It lasts through light snacks, coffee, and a small amount of kissing (pull those minds up out of the gutter – children need a kiss or two while you’re sending them off to summer camp, don’t they?). It will come off, though, so I wouldn’t call it a stain, but it’s lasting power far surpasses that of any gloss I’ve ever used before.
The downside of the product is that it’s a bit dry, in comparason to other glosses. This is to be expected, however, given the fact that it’s supposed to be a long wearing product. It just takes a bit of getting used to. And the wand kind of freaks me out – it’s a heart-shaped sponge wand, but it’s kind of…I don’t know. Floppy? It moves around a lot. I think the heart shape is great for getting the contours of your lips, but a little firmness in the sponge never hurt anyone. It just looks kind of weird and takes some time to learn to manage well.
You can find this gloss at just about every major retailer. I got mine at Target. I’m sure Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, and Drugstore.com has it too. Amazon does not currently have it in stock.
I know that a person can get MAC Fatigue, what with all the coverage of MAC cosmetics that is out there. While I like MAC, and always stop by the counter to see what their latest offerings are, I don’t write about them very often because everyone else covers them extensively and with great skill.
But I recently picked up a little something while browsing the MAC exclusives at Nordstrom (they aren’t available yet, but the bright color kits look really fun). It’s one of the Tendertones in Sweet & Nice.
I’m not really sure how to describe this product. It’s essentially lip gloss in a pot, with a sweet grape-candy smell. While I’m not a huge fan of the smell (I really do not want to run around smelling like candy – I’m not 13), I do really like the gloss itself. It has a nice pigment to it, not overly dark, which is nice considering this no-makeup thing I’ve had going on while I’ve been home these past two weeks. It’s easily applied with a finger, although you could use a brush if that’s your thing – I’m sure the brush would give you a more precise application. But the best part about it is the SPF protection it offers while giving you a nice glossy sheen.
Hurry, though, if you’re interested. This is a limited-time only product, and many colors are already sold out online. My local Nordstrom had all of them, though, so it might not be hard to find them locally.

Seems like everyone is talking about the new e.l.f. line. I suppose it’s not all that new. But I was browsing around their site tonight, and it does seem like they have some fun stuff. Especially these Hypershine Mini Cell Phone Lip Gloss Charms
. It’s almost like a more modern Wet ‘n Wild. And I’m not down on Wet ‘n Wild, either – I’m currently sporting a bright fuschia nail polish that my daughter insisted on buying at the drugstore the other day.
