It’s giveaway time around these parts, and this one is a great introduction to a brand that I’ve been enjoying for quite some time. Julep is a nail brand based out of Seattle, with actual physical locations where you can get a manicure and connect with your girlfriend, but no false nails. As part of their philosophy, they are committed to healthy, safe, and toxin-free  work spaces as well as products.  Continue reading »

I love it when I can find a product that just enables whatever new obsession I’m working my way through. In case you haven’t heard of BB creams, they are a relatively new import from the east that combine makeup and skin care ingredients all in one easy to use product, minimizing the amount of time you spend layering products on your face. It’s about time, right? I was fortunate enough to be able to try the two new formulations by Dr. Jart, and I love them both. Continue reading »

I’m one of those people who doesn’t wear lipstick very often, but when I do, I want it to be gorgeous. I’m not a fan of cheaper lipsticks that fade quickly, or leave a ring of color around the outer edges of my lips. If it flakes, forget it. I want it to be smooth, long lasting, and have amazing pigments. Also, I don’t want to pay a fortune for it, because it’s lipstick, not a Prada bag. And overall, I can usually find a color I like in any line, no matter the price point. But I love to explore new lines, and this week I was able to play with the Bonita lipsticks by new cosmetic company Yagolicious.  Continue reading »

Not that any of us are really ready for it, but the holiday season is fast approaching, and besides the shopping, cooking, and family visits, it’s also time for the holiday party circut, which is obviously my favorite part of the holidays. Not only are sparkly clothes encouraged and welcomed, but it’s a great time to break out the fun makeup. I often use things during the holiday season that I wouldn’t dream of using in my regular life (think glitter eye shadow). So in preparation I dug through my makeup stash to see what I was going to do this season.  Continue reading »

I love nail polish. I am not as good with it as all my nail bloggers are, but I aspire to be like them. In fact, I just purchased my first dotting tool, and plan to sit down tonight and use the heck out of it.

When Julep sent me their fall box, I was so excited to try them out. These are truly fall colors, and each of them is lovely in their own way. Continue reading »

Mascara is life. If I were stranded on a desert island and only had one beauty product, I do hope it’s an excellent tube of mascara. It’s the one thing I will always put on, even if I don’t do anything else to my face. Mascara helps make eyes pop, and when you find the right formula that works for you, you hang on to it with everything you’ve got.  Continue reading »

So, I was talking not too long ago about how bummed I was that I couldn’t find any of the Poppy King for Boots lip products in my local Target because clearly people around here are much cooler than I thought and purchased them all. However, I managed to get my hands on some, and I have the entire collection swatched for you, packaging and all. Enjoy!  Continue reading »

So, I’ve taken on the project of photographing my makeup stash, focusing on my favorites that I can’t live without. Surprisingly, there are a lot of products that I can’t live without, and I haven’t even scratched the surface of what is in my makeup closet. Yes, I have an entire closet just for beauty products. It used to be my linen closet, but all my stuff has taken it over. As I move through what I have, I’m throwing things out and searching for better organizational systems. So you’ll start seeing posts focusing on my makeup bag staples pop up every now and again while I complete this project. It will probably take me a year, and I’m only half kidding. Normally, I’m a “get what you pay for” kind of person, which means that I end up with a good deal of high end products for no real good reason at all. I’m slowly beginning to figure out that a high price tag doesn’t mean anything at all, other than you appreciate good marketing. Beauty supply stores have become an excellent source of amazing products for me, and Ruby Kisses is a product line that is an excellent example of what I’m talking about.  Continue reading »

Since retro makeup is having a moment (Pan Am, anyone?), liquid eyeliner is right on trend. Unfortunately, many are intimidated by it, thinking that it’s not as easy to use as a pencil. The truth of the matter is that it can be that easy with the right product and some practice. The right product looks a good deal like the NYX Super Skinny Marker - jet black liner with a felt tip pen that leaves a dramatic look behind.  Continue reading »

Animal Print PiecesI love clip in hair extensions, in case that hasn’t been made obvious by my many posts on the subject. I am, however, rather tired of the feather trend, but I still love the pop that a brightly colored hair piece can bring. HairUWear has introduced a new product in their Put On Pieces that are animal prints, and they are super cute.

The styles include Ginger Tiger, Pink Tiger, Blue Tiger, Purple Tiger, White Tiger, and Red Tiger. They are made with  Tru2Life ® Heat-Friendly hair, so you can apply heat tools such as flat irons or curling irons without it melting. And if you’ve ever made that mistake, you’ll know that is a huge deal – melted synthetic hair is smelly and messy.

Animal Print Pieces by HairUWear are available at Ulta and JC Penney salons and retail for $10 for one package, which contains one strip.

Winged Eye Liner LookWinged eyeliner is having a moment, if you haven’t noticed. I’ve seen it everywhere, and it’s a trick I get asked about a great deal. This time I used all Ruby Kisses products on my eyes, and if you haven’t heard of them yet, it’s high time that you do. This lower priced line gives seriously professional results. I discovered them this past year at The Makeup Show, and have been eagerly waiting for them to come to my area so that I can add to my collection, but unfortunately I have not yet seen it here. I keep looking, though, because the products really are terrific.

For this look, I began with the 24/7 Eye Shadow Magic Primer, spread over entire lid. Next I applied the Ultra Brilliant Eye Shadow Duo in 06, which is two shades of a neutral brown. Lighter color over the lid, darker shade on the crease. On the upper lashline only, I applied Never Smudge Liquid Liner in brown, moving from the inner eye to the outer eye, flicking up on the end. With liquid liner, it’s easy to make your line thicker, so always start off thin, and build it up. I applied Big Lash Mascara as a final touch, about three coats.

Overall, it’s a simple look, and one that is fairly easy to recreate. Do you wear winged eyeliner? What is your favorite way to apply it?
