Picking a the best bronzer is kind of a nightmare for me. I have this weird skin tone that is a Native American olive with a pale white Irish layer to it. It’s very confusing, and I often find myself navigating towards the “neutral” colors, rather than the “cool” or “warm.” Or I just don’t worry about it at all, which is my favorite way of dealing with it. But with bronzers, the key is knowing your skin tone and finding that right one that makes you look natural, and not all darkish orangey gray.

Like I said, it’s a challenge.

But with my weird “neutral” skin tone, these are the absolute best bronzers that I have come across.

Getting my glow on with the best bronzer for summer

  1. Cargo’s Bronzer was my very, very first bronzer back in the day when I finally decided I needed some. Just the right amount of color with a tiny, tiny shimmer. My original Bronzer is long gone, but I have replaced it with the waterproof version. $29 at Kohl’s. Did you even know Kohl’s had Cargo? I didn’t either.
  2. tarte Amazonian clay waterproof bronzer: my penchant for waterproof bronzers come from spending a lot of time at the beach. I like to have just a few touches of makeup on, and bronzer is one of them. This stays put but isn’t overwhelmingly dark – don’t let the photo fool you. $30 at tarte.
  3. Benefit’s Dallas: no, it’s not because I’m moving there, but isn’t that funny anyway? This isn’t really a bronzer – I think it’s billed as a blush, but it’s a gorgeous shade of pink-brown that gives my skin a sun-touched bronze glow.

Do you have any favorites? Mostly I find bronzers to be too dark, but finding the best bronzer for that perfect summer glow is well worth the time investment. Bronzer adds color and gives a healthy, even glow to the skin.
