I have always struggled with breakouts. I have never had serious acne, but it has been problematic, and has persisted all the way into my 40s, which just isn’t fair. I figured I would have grown out of it by now, but it has only eased up a little bit, not gone away. And it always rears it’s ugly head one week out of the month. I suppose this is a fair exchange for having oily skin that doesn’t wrinkle easily, but just barely.

At any rate, I am always searching for salicylic acid products, because it seems to be the most effective ingredient to control my breakouts. I was having a chat with my doctor recently and we were talking about pimples and how I still get them, and I mentioned my love of salicylic acid. She informed me, though, that benzoyl peroxide is really the ingredient of choice according to the majority of studies out there. I was kind of blown away, because you don’t see benzoyl peroxide much any more.

When I found out about the Exposed Skin Care system, I was excited to try it because it actually combines both ingredients. The Basic Kit (http://www.exposedskincare.com/acne-treatment-products/5-piece-basic-kit.html) includes bottles of Facial Cleanser and Clearing Tonic, as well as tubes of Clear Pore Serum and Acne Treatment Serum.

The Facial Cleanser has a 1% salicylic acid content, and you use it twice a day, followed by the Clearing Tonic. This step is interesting, because you apply the tonic with your bare hands. It took a bit of getting used to, but I think I have it mastered now. In the mornings, follow the tonic with the Clear Pore Serum, and in the evening you can use both the Clear Pore Serum and the Acne Treatment Serum. The Clear Pore Serum is also a salicylic acid product, and the Acne Treatment Serum is a benzoyl peroxide product.

The Basic Kit also includes the Derm-X cloth, which works great, but reminds me of the Sham-Wow commercial.

So far, it’s doing a great job controlling breakouts – I really haven’t had one since starting the system. I’ll be continuing the products for 60 days, so check back with me to see if I’m still loving the results.
