In the winter, when things like my face tend to freeze and flake, I switch over to creamier, heavier products to help keep some moisture on my face. And because I’m living like a vagabond, I like them in stick form so I can easily throw them in a bag. And I think I’ve been through all the cream blushes. Especially in a stick.
And really, it’s kind of fun to make up your face with the equivalent of preschooler’s marker. Just swipe a bit here and there, or make a big dot on your cheeks with your cream blushes and just rub it in. It’s great for those days when you just want to throw a bit of CC cream and some quick blush and mascara and go.
Application is very easy, I like to build up my cream blushes doing light applications until I reach the color level I want. I prefer to add it with a brush (Make Up For Ever has a great one, the 148 Blending Blush Brush), but with stick formulas, it’s easy to just apply it straight from the stick.
Here are my 3 best cream blushes:
- My current favorite is Paula Dorf’s Perfect Color in Ecstasy. It’s a fun bright pink cream blush in a stick with a very light shimmer. It’s pretty light, so you’ll need to work it up if you want a bold look. As an every day color, you won’t need more than one application. And I love having a touch of shimmer without it making my 40+ face look harsh.
- While Maybelliene Face Studio Master Glaze is a drugstore product, it behaves like a premium brand. Highly pigmented and easy to apply, the best part of this one is how easy it is to blend. Because it’s so pigmented, I definitely put this on before powder. I usually don’t need to go back and build it up. Just the opposite, actually, I had to make sure it was blended well.
- The fantastic oil blend makes Josie Maran’s Argan Color Stick a favorite. There are five color choices, but all are neutral enough for any skin tone, so no more guessing at the makeup counter. The oils are jojoba, flax seed, avocado, and of course argan. Super fab for dry skin, but is great in the winter for oily skin.
