Nudes are everywhere. And no matter how many times I tell myself I just don’t need any more nude palettes or shades, I end up buying more. I managed to avoid all the Urban Decay nude palettes, but Maybelline got the better of me earlier this week with the Nudes palette.

Twelve really pretty shades, although the top row seems to mostly melt into my skin and not look like much. I think on someone with fair to light skin will see more payoff than those of us with more olive/red tones. They are probably better suited to a cooler complexion.

The bottom row, however, work great with my skin. I only used three shades, starting with the mid-brown on my lids up through the crease, the gold in the inner corners, and the cream on my brow bone. The eyeliner is Bobbi Brown’s Long Wear Gel Eyeliner in Espresso Ink, applied with a small angle brush. ┬áMascara is Cover Girl’s Bombshell Volume by LashBlast Mascara. It’s a two step formula that I didn’t like at first, but gradually fell in love with.

The shadows are creamy and easy to work with. They seem well pigmented, although it’s really hard to tell with that top row. I’m sure they are pigmented well, they just fade out in my weird skin tone. But I found them easy to blend, and the mattes weren’t chalky.

Maybelline’s web site has plenty of tutorials, mostly by beauty bloggers for you to try.

For about $9, I’d say that the palette is well worth the money, although I really wish there were two versions, one for cool skin tones and one for warm. But the price is certainly right, and if you need more nudes, then why not?
