Now I know there are a million and one tutorials out there talking about how to spread coconut oil all over your hair and let it set for the best conditioning treatment ever, but I have a secret one that might be a little more useful.

Gather up a cup of coconut oil in liquid form, your favorite essential oil, oil blend, or fragrance, two disposable shower caps (like the kind you get in a box of coloring – super cheap at the drugstore) and a hand towel that you can get wet. I personally used a ylang ylang essential oil from Aveda. Mix those two up and pour it in a small bowl and refrigerate it.

When you’re ready for your awesome hot oil treatment, take the now-solidified oil blend out of the refrigerator and scoop out what you need. Warm it up over low on your stove or a double burner, if you cook enough to have one of those. Don’t do the microwave. Just don’t.

Slather your liquid oil all over your hair, but mostly your ends. When you’re done wrap it all up on your head and put one shower cap on. In your sink or bathtub, heat water as hot as you can stand it, and get the towel wet. Squeeze out the extra, and wrap this wet towel like a turban on your head. THEN take the second shower cap and put it over the towel-turban. Let it sit for 20-30 minutes, and you have an amazeballs hot oil treatment.

Alternatively, you can also apply the oil and sit under a dryer for 30 minutes with a shower cap on, if you happen to own one of those. But I might be the only one.
