So everyone I know has a Beauty Blender. And while I really don’t mind spending some serious cash on beauty tools, I wasn’t sure if I really needed a makeup sponge. The truth of the matter is that I rarely, if ever, use a sponge for foundation. Most of the time I use my fingers. Sometimes I’ll use a foundation brush. But makeup sponges have been verboten since a MAC makeup artist told me once that they “waste too much foundation.”

I don’t know how true that is, but I went from being a makeup sponge kind of girl to never using one at all. But I’ve discovered that I like using them to blend out my foundation and contouring (when I’m not too lazy to do it), especially when I’m working with a full coverage foundation. I don’t use it for application any more at all, but it does blend like a dream.

So while looking around before starting my sponge experiments, I noticed that Walgreens sells their version of the Beauty Blender, but for much, much cheaper. $6 versus $20. And it’s infused with collagen! I don’t know what that brings to the table, but it sounds nice. So I grabbed it. And the rest is history.

tl;dr: if you like makeup sponges, don’t want to invest in a Beauty Blender, try Walgreens’ Studio 35 Beauty Blender Sponge instead. It comes infused with collagen, for whatever that’s worth.
