It’s all about blue, kittens. Blue, blue, blue. I know, with my (weird) eye color (seriously – are they hazel? are they brown? I can’t even tell anymore), I should be all about plums, golds, or even greens, and while those are all very nice, there is nothing I love more than some well done blue.
The eye look is actually really simple, although it looks complex. I started with my Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden all over the lid and a bit under my lower lash line. Next, I took Maybelline’s Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24 Hour Cream Gel Shadow (that is just a huge mouthful!) in Electric blue and filled in my lid, just up to the crease, and brought it underneath as a liner on my lower lash line. Next, I hit that crease and the outer corners of my eyes with a smoky gray shadow. I believe it was the dark gray from my Too Faced Smoky Eye Collection, but I know it’s been reformulated recently, and this shade may not be in there. But it really doesn’t matter – any smoky gray or even black will do here. Just use a light hand if it’s heavily pigmented, as you can always go back and build on it if you need to. Then I attached a quick set of Kiss lashes (Premium Eyelashes in 03) and filled in the gaps with my MAC Penultimate Eye Liner in Rapidblack. Then I took my HiP Kohl Eyeliner in black (these apparently aren’t being made any more, but you can still find them online – I personally love the powder eyeliner, but I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea) and lined my lower water line. A quick swipe of my Size Queen mascara, and I was done.
I also continued it to my nails. I used two coats of Lancome’s Indigo Paris, which was a limited edition back in 2009, I think. I’m sure it’s not around anymore, but seriously – a metallic cobalt looks so chic on nails.
So that’s my case for my beloved cobalt blue. Don’t be afraid of blue – and don’t think that you’re going to channel your inner 70′s frosty blue eyeshadow lady, either. These blues are deep, rich, and mysterious. Perfect for fall.
