I have a special spot in my heart for Guess fragrances. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away (okay, it wasn’t that far, just in Corpus Christi, Texas, but it was a long time ago – almost 20 years), I had this boyfriend that I was living with. I really liked him a lot, and we got along famously. As a gift, he bought me the original Guess fragrance, and always loved it when I wore it. He wasn’t really the romantic or sentimental type (which was fine, neither was I), but the scent of Guess will always remind me of him. I kept a bottle of it until I couldn’t find it anymore, and moved on to more sophisticated fragrances. And the boyfriend? Well, I married him eventually, and I still think he’s pretty great. But I haven’t found a bottle of Guess in many, many years. Until I got my hands on this.
Guess Seductive Sunkissed is a really lovely fragrance that recalls the original only vaguely. They are calling it a foriental woody musk, so that’s probably why I like it. It’s not overly sweet, and there are undertones of musk which is probably more my fragrance style. Created by Symrise perfumer Bernard Ellena, Guess Seductive Sunkissed will be available this spring in Guess stores, retail outlets, and perfumery chains. 1.7 oz. retails at $52.
Top notes include pear, raspberry, black currant blossom and pink grapefruit dawn. The heart of the fragrance has notes of jasmine, Brazilian orchid and vanilla. The lingering base notes are musk, teide violet and macassar ebony.
While I love the box and the cute charm on the bottle (it’s a lipstick!), I don’t really get the retro vibe from this fragrance, unless we’re talking about 90’s retro. It doesn’t have the powdery, floral heart that most vintage fragrances have. Not that it’s a problem for me, but if you know your vintage fragrances, and buy this thinking that it’s a throwback, you will probably be disappointed. However, taken for what it is – a summery blend of flowers/oriental spice/musk, you’ll be more than happy.
