One thing I can always count on this time of year is the “best of” lists that roll out. Beauty awards, best of, and must buy lists are everywhere, and on a good percentage of them you will find Maybelline’s classic Great Lash Mascara prominently featured.
I never understood this.
It’s not a bad mascara. But it’s not a great one, either. It’s just…average. It’s fairly reasonably priced, but it doesn’t go above and beyond your normal mascara. Perhaps I have unrealistic expectations? At any rate, I was excited to see something new added to the line, Maybelline’s Great Lash Lots of Lashes.
The packaging is super cute – it still has it’s trademark pink and green, right down to the mascara brush, which you will never see again once you dip it into the product.
What is different about the Lots of Lashes is the brush, I believe, because the actual product seems to be exactly the same. This brush is tapered; it goes from wide to narrow, and the idea is to use the widest part on your outer lashes because that’s where you want the most volume. The smaller section of the brush helps to grab smaller lashes and coat them with product.
It sounds like a really good idea, but the reality is that it’s awkward to switch around how you normally apply mascara. I have to turn the wand backwards to get it to work correctly, and even then the end result is…average.
Honestly, it’s not a bad mascara, and surely for the price point you could do much worse. But if you are looking for major drama and impact, this is probably not going to give you what you need. If you need a good daily mascara, then this just might fit the bill. You can find it just about anywhere, including drug stores and big boxes, for about $5.
Are you a huge fan of Great Lash? Can you explain the popularity to me?
