estee lauder pleasures bloomEstee Lauder has taken their original Pleasures and added a fruity floral twist in the new Pleasures Bloom.

“We wanted to take the timeless core concept of pleasures – the enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures as the balance to a life that is often over connected and overextended – and express it with a new level of animation and vibrancy that reflects the world we live in today,” said Karyn Khoury, Senior Vice President, Corporate Fragrance Development Worldwide, The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. “The concept today is less about tranquil calmness and more about adding energy, animation and color to life.” Continue reading »

When I was in Dubai about ten years ago, I experienced a bit of culture shock. Not necessarily in a bad way, but it was so different to see how the women of that culture would veil themselves, and yet have the most amazing eye makeup I had ever seen. Not everyone had a full veil on, and some didn’t veil at all – Dubai was considered very progressive at the time, so I didn’t feel uncomfortable as a visiting American, nor did I personally have to cover up. At any rate, these beautiful eye makeup looks stayed with me for a long time, and although I’ve never been that good at recreating them for myself, there are many YouTube videos that show some amazing examples. This is one that I especially enjoyed due to the gorgeous liner techniques. Continue reading »

Beauty Blogs Backstage

This month we are taking a backstage look at the UK-based blog, Pinch Your Cheeks. I have a romanticized view of Europe and the beauty products they get over there (anyone else remember the Lancome Pop Petrol shade that the US never got?), so I had to ask a few questions to bring myself back down to reality. Here is Sultana patiently answering my ridiculous questions. Continue reading »

diorshow extase mascaraI’ve always been a fan of Diorshow mascara – in fact, the original formula was my original “holy grail” mascara, and still holds a place in my top three. With the release of the formulas after, I wasn’t as impressed and finally just stopped buying anything other than the original Diorshow. That is, until I heard about Dior ‘Diorshow Extase’ Mascara. I read the following and decided that I had to have it:

This plumping mascara visibly improves your lashes and delivers high-impact drama in a single stroke! Featuring an exclusive dual-fiber tiered brush to define lashes, and an instant-volume formula containing exclusive Metamorphosis Powders that increase the size of your lashes 50% upon application, Spherical Black Pearl Pigments that wrap around each lash for 3D volume and a patented SR38 active ingredient that plumps lashes day after day!

Pretty compelling, no? So I tried it out. Continue reading »

american beauty true delight perfumeAmerican Beauty, the grown up brand by Kohls, can always be counted on for a classic scent. This September, they aren’t disappointing, and are releasing True Delight.

I’m describing it as a woodsy floral, but they have this to say:

Experience True Delight with an irresistible blend of floral garden blooms, sparkling fruit, and sensual musky wood. Its signature ingredients, juicy peach and magnolia, make the fragrance as delightful as a perfect afternoon in just one spritz.

Now Smell This, a fabulous fragrance blog, lists other notes as bergamot, cassis, jasmine, muguet, tiare, camellia, iris, apricot, cool morning dew accord, musk, cedar and sandalwood.

img_0003 I’m making an effort to do more documenting of the makeup I wear every day, versus what I’d just like to own. My stash is fairly large, but that doesn’t stop me from purchasing more when I’m at the pharmacy picking up other things. Rite Aid was running a buy one get one 50% off on Maybelline eye products, so I picked up a few of their new shadows. The one I messed with today is the Color Pearls Marbleized shadow in Mocha Mirage. I’ll take you step by step through what I did after the jump. Continue reading »

Emma Watson pixie cutThe internets have been abuzz about Emma Watson’s new pixie cut. Personally, I think it’s adorable. I admire anyone who can carry off such a short cut – it takes a certain face shape for it to work really well. Plus, since we have such weird outdated notions of women’s hair in our society, it’s always refreshing to see a woman with short hair. And can we all agree that it’s about a million times easier to take care of?

Let’s take a look at some of the best celeb pixie cuts and get inspired, shall we?
