pretty woman perfume and votive candle by barbara orbisonBarbara Orbison is the widow of THAT Roy Orbison – you know, the one who performed Pretty Woman? And rather than just hanging out and enjoying Malibu and everything his fame had to offer, she reached back for her childhood dream of creating a fragrance that all women would love and launched it this past holiday season.

“It has been a life-long dream of mine to create a perfume that speaks to women everywhere,” comments Barbara. “I believe that within every woman there is a pretty woman and my signature fragrance helps bring that out that inner confidence and spirit so they feel strong, empowered, sensual and pretty.”

I’m not sure how best to classify this scent, but I would think that it fits fairly well in the spicy floral category. Bergamot opens the scent as a crisp top note, and within minutes the middle note accord of stargazer lily, red rose and carnation develops. The base note accord of amber, patchouli, vanilla, atlas cedar, and incense warm it up and make it last.

Since I’m more of a spicy person and less of a floral person, this is a fragrance that I have to sit with for a bit. It doesn’t turn me on right away, even after the heart begins to develop. I think where this really begins to shine is when the base comes through and lingers on – the patchouli and incense keep things interesting. The product line is fairly extensive for just one scent: a nine ounce candle in gold, white, or black for $50, 1.7 ounce perfume for $80, and a 3.7 ounce pure oil roll on ampoule for $50. In the works are a room diffuser, a 30 mL bottle, and an On the Go set including three 2.4 mL spray vials of scent in a matchbox.

The line is currently available at Fred Segal and the Peninsula Hotel in LA, Planet Blue, Private Edition in Nashville, as well as online at PrettyWomanPerfume.com.
