A new fragrance from Balenciaga after ten years
In the first fragrance release in ten years for the house of Balenciaga, designer Nicolas Ghesquière has created a modern yet retro fragrance that can only be described as extremely unique. Taking a note that was traditionally used to bring a powdery floral into the mix, the violet in this fragrance is delightfully green and almost metallic while still retaining it’s violet goodness. You can certainly smell this violet chypre in the opening notes, along with a very light floral – but it’s not sweet. It’s more green than sweet, and it dries down to a very soft musky wood. It’s one of those unique fragrances that is both very light yet very noticeable, and is bound to attract attention just for it’s very unique-ness.
The notes listed are bergamot, spices, pepper, violet, carnation, oakmoss, cedar, vetiver, patchouli, labdanum. But it’s not as spicy as the listed notes would have you believe. Instead it settles on my skin as a creamy wood.
Available at Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus, $95 for 1.7 oz and $130 for 2.5 oz.
