This has been a long time coming, but I’m finally sitting down to share my skincare secret. It’s not really a secret, but finding something that works for me is so rare and unusual so I must sing praises to the heavens.

I praised the Skin Genesis line last year, but they have added so much more to it, and for more than just “normal” skin types. Those of us with trickier skin can now find what they are looking for in the line as well. I personally have problems with oily breakout-prone skin, and I’m also in my 30′s, so I have an interest in anti-aging. Those two things don’t often go together, but with me they are important.

I start by removing my eye makeup. I’m currently using Sephora’s Waterproof Eye Makeup remover. More on that later.

Next, I hit it with Deep Purifying Foaming Cream Cleanser. It has natural clay, salicylic acid to fight the breakouts, and microbeads for exfoliation. It deep cleanses without stripping your face, and compliments the rest of the Skin Genesis routine perfectly.

Next comes the Pore Minimizing Skin Resmoother. This stuff is the bomb. While I’ve tried a lot of products that claim to do something (anything) to your pores, this one actually does it. After a month of using this regimen exclusively, I can say that my pores definitely look different and my skin feels much smoother. It contains Pro-Xylane and Hylarounic Acid (be sure to check out my first review of Skin Genesis for more information on these terms and the benefits of these ingredients). I am seriously in love with this stuff, and will be buying more when this bottle of goodness runs out.

As a final touch, I like to use the Daily Moisturizer Oil Free Lotion. This moisturizer looks as if it has a touch of luminizing sheen to it, and it certainly doesn’t hurt the looks of my face. Non-greasy but still enough to keep the flakes away. It says that it boosts cellular renewal to help erase fine lines. While I haven’t looked specifically for line reduction, as I said in my last review, I certainly haven’t seen any new ones. Works for me! Plus, it has the added benefit of keeping my skin super smooth and touchable.

And finally, more of a accessory and not a daily requirement, is the Micro-Smoothing Wet Cleasing Towelettes. These things are fabulous for travel, or when you’re just feeling lazy. It does a fantastic job is removing makeup from my eyes, even waterproof mascara. It also includes salicylic acid for the breakout prone, although I wouldn’t recommend using it as a daily cleanser – I don’t get the feeling that it would be as effective as the cream cleanser.

All in all, this is a fantastic drugstore line that I would highly recommend to anyone who has tricky skin like I do. I think it stands head to head with any higher priced line out there, in terms of what it does and the benefits of the line.

I will definitely be repurchasing and am eager to see if they continue with this line.

I’m on a Target rant lately, aren’t I? The truth is, I bought Pixi Lip Blush and stuck it in my cosmetic bag only to completely forget about it for almost four months.

That is really awful, isn’t it? I know. Believe me, I know. Clearly I have too much.

However, the good news is that I was cleaning out my cosmetic bag with the idea that I needed to really go through and make an effort to use what I already owned, instead of giving in to the temptation to buy more. And by doing that, I rediscovered what is probably the best lip stain I have ever used.

What makes Pixi Lip Blush different is the applicator. It’s like a felt-tip marker and it goes on easily and without much hassle. My second-favorite is my Revlon’s Just Bitten and it has a roller ball which can make application a touch sloppy.

The stain is true, and lasts well over six hours, according to my lips. I kept a gloss over the top of it most of the day, and I did not have to reapply during my entire shift at work. Bonus!

You know I have to point out a downside, because really, nothing is perfect. The bummer here is that this little baby is going to set you back about $18. Sorry about that. Good news? It lasts forever, you’ll love it, and if you’re a lip stain fan, you’ll be raving over it too.

Everyone was all abuzz about the arrival (finally!) of the cult-favorite Elnett hairspray by L’Oreal. Long been a favorite of Europeans and stylists the world over, you can now pick up a can at Target, of all places.

Needless to say, in the interest of blogging (and because I can’t really help myself) I grabbed a can and began spraying. Not right away, of course, but the next time I did my hair.

I do a great deal of things to my hair. Recently, I’ve been setting it in velcro rollers while it’s still damp and letting it dry. I’ve also been using hot rollers to get some volume and curl in there. And occasionally, I’ll still flat-iron the living daylights out of it. And with every style I’ve done, this hairspray brings the magic.

What is so great and different about it is that you can brush through your hair, make it smooth, and it’s still there. Absolutely no “crunch” to your hair at all, and my fellow 80′s ladies know EXACTLY what I’m talking about when I mention crunch, yes? Holds all day, and can even hold updos without a problem at all.

If I had to come up with a downside, it would be the scent. It’s not my favorite, but I could care less. It’s the best can of hairspray I’ve ever laid my hands on.

Grab yours at Target for about $14.99.

Too Faced’s LockDown cream shadow makes some promises that are just too good for me to pass up. Touted as a primer and eyeshadow in one, that alone is enough to make me want to run to the makeup counter to give it a try. But then to tell me that it’s creaseless? And give me these amazing shades?
Sign me up. Right now. Especially the I’m Guilty shade. How fun is that?

Here are some tips from Jerrod Blandino, founder and Creative Director of Too Faced:

  • Squeeze a tiny pearl size drop of Lockdown to your finger and apply directly to the eye. You will have about 60 seconds to smooth out your look before it magically locks down!
  • Use any Lockdown as a base to one of your favorite eye colors.
  • Use any Lockdown color as an instant eyeliner! Using a flat tipped brush, push color down across the lash line and onto the lid. Complete your look by applying Lash Injection Mascara for full glam lash potential!

Lockdown is available for about $18.50 at Sephora and TooFaced.com.

Have you tried Lockdown? Do you love it? Tell me about it, so I can head to the counter with confidence.

I am absolutely in love with the bold colors of this summer’s YSL collection. Inspired by Africa, the eyeshadow palette called Tresor d’Afrique is my favorite of the bunch. It includes 5 shades: ivory, to be used as a base; turquoise, plum, and navy blue for definition, and toffee to brighten the arch area and bring warmth and contrast to the eyes.

Not to neglect the lashes, there is a limited edition Everlong Waterproof Lengthening Mascara called “Ever Peacock Blue,” which, I am quite sure, is just gorgeous. What is unique about this formula, however, is that it contains eyelash conditioner – similar to what you can buy these days to boost the length and overall growth of your lashes.

Also in this collection are two beautiful sheer lipstick shade, a Tresor d’Afrique Sun Powder (also limited edition), which is a bronzer, and the Touche Eclat Radiant Touch in “light peach.” Makeup mavens everywhere seem to rave about the Touche Eclat, and after watching the videos on YSL’s site, I have to say I’m intrigued. She looks flawless!

What do you think? Are you as anxious to get your hands on this gorgeous collection as I am?
