I want to love maxi dresses. I do. But did you see my post about Kelly Clarkson? Shining example of a maxi dress. All the best intentions, blah, blah, blah. But they are so comfy! So forgiving! So lightweight! Can you tell I have one sitting in my closet that I haven’t worn? Not this one here, although I think this one is super cute – and I’m not a J. Crew fan (way too preppy for me; I don’t have a single preppy bone in my body). I like the black band at the top of the bodice and at the waist. It seems to cut the pattern a bit and make it more wearable. I don’t know. I think I like it. I also think I could look like a graphic designer threw up on me if I wasn’t careful.

Kai Perfume Oil

This will probably be my summer frangrance. I am in love with gardenia scents, especially in the summer. I think Kai has more depth and feeling than my previous favorite, Marc Jacobs. Perhaps it’s the oil application, I’m not sure. But it is deliciously rich and is like summer in a bottle. I’m currently torn between this one and Monyette Paris. It’s a tough decision!

I really, really, really wanted to like this one. I thought the notes were perfect for my summer fragrance, and had extremely high hopes when my sample came from Lucky Scent. Alas, I was to be disappointed. It’s sweet. Not just sweet, but syrupy sweet. Way too sweet for me. I probably shouldn’t be that surprised considering I’m a huge fan of incense and amber notes, but gardenia, jasmine and even some light pineapple are also favorites. Although the notes listed are Frangipani blossoms, red hibiscus, star jasmine, fig, gardenia, guava, pineapple, Tahitian vanilla, sandalwood, coconut, and musk, it ended up being cloyingly sweet on drydown. I’m not sure if it’s the fragipani or the fruit notes, but I’m leaning more towards the fruit. You have to love Hello Kitty, though. It’s not a drugstore quality or even a mall quality scent – this is more sophisticated than that. Like Hello Kitty grows up, but still stays as sweet as she can be. A great fragrance for someone who likes sweeter notes, just doesn’t quite work on me.
